Community Engagement Program: Learning from Our Local Heroes

At our  preschool, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom walls and begins with our community. Through our Community Engagement Program, children build meaningful connections with local helpers who make our neighbourhood a safe and vibrant place to live. One of the most exciting highlights of this program is a special visit from "Sparky," Red Deer's beloved firefighter mascot. Smoky and the Red Deer Fire Department visit to teach children about fire safety, emergency awareness, and the importance of helping others in a fun, age-appropriate way.

Throughout the year, we also welcome community visitors such as RCMP officers, librarians, local dentists, and other neighbourhood professionals. These experiences give children the opportunity to ask questions, explore real tools and uniforms, and learn how different people contribute to the community. Trips to the local library and neighbourhood walks further enhance this learning by helping children recognize familiar community spaces and develop a sense of belonging.

By connecting children with real-world experiences and positive role models, the Community Engagement Program supports early citizenship, empathy, and social understanding. It helps preschoolers see themselves as active, caring members of their community and encourages a lifelong appreciation for the people who keep it strong.
